Blatec is a village in the Haná region, between the Morava River to the east and the Blata River to the west. It has a railway station on the Nezamyslice–Olomouc line. Blatec Primary and Nursery School is a small primary school with Years 1 to 5, a nursery and an after-school club.

Blatec was formerly called Velké Tážaly. Residents built their own school in 1874. The monumental Municipal House, built in 1886–1887, is a landmark of the village square; its hall hosts balls and community events. St Margaret's Chapel on the square is first mentioned in 1804, and the village also has a statue of St Linhart dating from 1771.
